Having worked for so long in the aviation & travel & tourism sector, it is a logical step to blog about travel. I have probably visited virtually every country around the world and have witnessed a lot of tourists hassled beyond belief!
Basic things which they should have done to avoid being unhappy. From young couples carrying 5 huge bags (in all likelihood took all of their loft :)) to entire families (bringing eating utensils!!), I've seen plenty of traveling nightmares. The young couple's post travel in all probability led to break up due to the hassles they would have suffered at each and every airport!!
Taking care of simple and easy stuff will make your vacation a really pleasurable experience. The 1st basic rule you need to tattoo on your heads - "Travel Light". That of course doesn't mean you journey without the necessities. It implies bring only stuff that you feel you will absolutely need on the holiday.
Rather than Ten set of footwear, take just 2. Recognize what I am talking about! You're the one that will need to lug it all over, open your bags at every airport for security checks, face the insults of the air port security put down attitude in your face and in all likelihood making faces to need to search within your things. Re-packing all the stuff at the airport security counter can be a major problem if you've got your own flight in the next Half an hour.
No body would like going through your soiled under wear. Least of all you, humiliating getting your lace undies actually being brought out for inspection in total view of thousands of other travelers.
However often I stress on it, it won't be sufficient - "Travel Light". You need to go by this golden rule. It is a must do. The lighter you travel, the more satisfying your holiday is going to be. You'll obviously spend less just about everywhere as well. You'll not need to pay anything for extra baggage. You'll be able to pick up or carry your own baggage, will not have to tip the bell boy or pay anything for your luggage in the shuttle bus or even train. Get exactly where I'm going!
I realize many people only journey for family vacation most likely once per year, but believe me life becomes easy and simple if you - "Travel light". This golden rule continues to be my rule ever since I was Fourteen, when my father took us on my first foreign vacation to India. But more on that in my next article!
Till then, think of ways to cut down things inside your baggage, do not take more than Two sets of shoes, dump everything in footwear or garments which is greater than 200grams every set or 7-8 ounce. Well, I heard that - all your shoes are out then aren't they? You will need a set of light weight walking shoes and a set of perfect dress shoes. The majority of people vacation for 7-10 nights in another country. 2 pairs tend to be more than sufficient.
If you're planning trekking, I'll allow you an additional Two hundred gms!
Cheers until the next one!
ps. make sure to go and visit money belt (light weight remember!!)
